Headline: Junior soccer team win 5 - 3 Posted: November 9, 2011
Our junior soccer team had their first outing on Wednesday the 9th of November against a strong Croom side and advance to the next round after a promising display. They didn’t get off to the best start, conceding a soft goal from a corner kick. They then had a slice of good fortune as Sam Tamir’s shot from distance was fumbled over the line. Just a few minutes before the break Matthew Keane’s driven free-kick was parried by the keeper into the path of Jack O’Neill who smashed it into the roof of the Croom net, giving the Sem a 2-1 lead heading in at half time. Immediately after half time the Sem extended their lead through James McCarrick with a delicate finish. Croom then hit the Sem with two very well taken goals, bringing them right back into the game at 3-3. Sean McGrath then brilliantly finished from a very acute angle to put the Sem back in the lead. Man of the match Jack O’Neill finished off Croom with a header from a brilliant Matthew Keane delivery to leave the final score at 5-3 and see St.Brendan’s into the next round of the competition. The team is managed by Mr Simon Moore and will play Clonmel in the last 16.
